Chiesa di Santa Sofia

The church of Santa Sofia is an ancient religious building of Benevento; rises in the formerly namesake square, today named after Giacomo Matteotti. It is one of the most important examples of Lombard architecture in the Langobardia Minor, although over the centuries it has been rebuilt several times, until it acquires its current appearance. The whole is part of the serial site "Longobardi in Italy: the places of power", including seven places full of architectural, pictorial and sculptural evidence of Longobard art, inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in June 2011.
